What is REAL ID?

The federal REAL ID law established guidelines for states to provide new and more secure forms of identification cards. Residents will need these new REAL ID cards in the future in order to enter federal buildings, including courthouses, as well as to board commercial flights.

Benefits of Pre-Verefication

Customers who successfully complete the process at this event will become eligible for a REAL ID. When PennDOT makes REAL IDs available in March 2019, these customers can apply online for their REAL ID, pay the applicable fees and it will be mailed to them within 10 business days. They will not need to visit a PennDOT Driver License Center.

*What You Need to Bring

To pre-verify for a REAL ID, you must bring with you:

  • Proof of your identity (certified copy of your birth certificate with a raised or embossed seal, or a U.S. passport or passport card).

  • Proof of your Social Security number (your Social Security card, which cannot be sealed in plastic; the name on this card must match the name on your current driver license or photo identification card, a process which can be performed at this event).

  • Proof of any legal name changes (certified copies of marriage certificates or court orders showing all name changes since birth).

  • Proof of your current, physical, Pennsylvania address (two forms are required, which could include an expired Pennsylvania driver license or photo identification card, or a bank statement or utility bill that is no more than 90 days old and shows your name and address).
