Masser Reminds Residents that the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Deadline is Jan. 2
ELYSBURG – Rep. Kurt A. Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) reminds older adults and people with disabilities that they have until Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, to apply for rebates on property taxes and rent paid in 2016.

“Residents interested in applying for rebates through the program can receive free assistance in filling out the form at my district offices in Elysburg and Danville,” Masser said.

The rebates are available through Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. The deadline was extended earlier this year to ensure those who are eligible have ample time to apply for property tax and rent rebates. The maximum state rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.

Eligibility income limits are set at the following levels, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits:
• $0 to $8,000, maximum $650 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $8,001 to $15,000, maximum $500 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $15,001 to $18,000, maximum $300 rebate (homeowners only).
• $18,001 to $35,000, maximum $250 rebate (homeowners only).

Applicants may obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms (PA-1000) and related information online at or by calling 1-888-222-9190. The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limits are $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded.
