About Reducing the Number of Legislators in the Pennsylvania House...

A proposal, House Bill 153, is currently being reviewed in the state Capitol that would reduce the size of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

This may sound like an attractive solution to reducing taxpayer costs, but for those of us in rural communities, we may feel a greater impact than those in more populated areas. When considering this proposal, please know that the specific reduction is arbitrary and not based on scientific evidence of effectiveness and accessibility, and no cost study has been completed to determine if any actual savings would be achieved, or if it could result in less members and more employees.

If this legislation passes, changes would not take effect until the 2022 election. The measure would have to pass the House in two consecutive sessions, and then it would go on the ballot.
