Route 147 Microsurfacing Project Starts June 18; Route 254 Microsurfacing Project to Follow

From Tuesday, June 12

Weather permitting, a microsurfacing project along 5.4 miles of Route 147 in Upper Augusta and Lower Augusta townships, Northumberland County, is scheduled to start Monday, June 18.

Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc. will be working along Route 147 from south of Sunbury to Fishers Ferry.

Upon completion of the Route 147 project (approximately 3 days), the contractor will start a microsurfacing project along 3.9 miles of Route 254 in Derry Township east of Washingtonville, Montour County, to the intersection of Route 44 at Jerseytown, Madison Township, Columbia County.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane through the work zones with flaggers and daylight signing controlling traffic flow. Motorists are asked to stay alert and drive with added caution.

Work on both projects will include microsurfacing of the roadway and shoulders, and placement of new pavement markings.

Microsurfacing involves the placement of a thin layer of blacktop to extend the life of the existing roadway for an additional 3 to 4 years and provide a higher skid resistance.

All work under this $308,736 contract is scheduled for completion by late June.


Route 901 WB Resurfacing Project Includes Three-Day Detour This Week

From Monday, June 11

 

A PennDOT maintenance crew in Northumberland County is scheduled to resurface the westbound lane of Route 901from approximately 1,000 feet east of the Routes 54 and 901 intersection to the intersection, including the turning lane to access Route 54 westbound. This is about one-half mile south of Merrian in Mount Carmel Township.

 

Westbound Route 901 traffic will be detoured starting around 7 a.m. tomorrow, June 12, until approximately 7 a.m. Friday, June 15.

 

The detour will begin in Schuylkill County in the town of Lavelle, east on Spruce Street, east on Lavelle Road, to Route 54 west, to the Routes 901 and 54 intersection.

 

Eastbound Route 901 traffic is not affected by this work.

 

The project is dependent on favorable weather.


Musser Lane drainage improvements scheduled

From Monday, June 11

 

A PennDOT maintenance crew in Northumberland County is scheduled to replace several cross pipes beneath Route 1001 (Musser Lane) in Delaware Township to improve drainage and in preparation for a paving project later this summer.

 

The pipes are located between Blue Ball Road and Peach Orchard Road.

 

There will be daily closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday this week.

 

Motorists are advised to follow the red-arrow detour.


Route 254 resurfacing project in Montour County starts June 25

From Monday, June 11

 

A resurfacing project along 1.1 miles of Route 254 in Derry Township, Montour County is scheduled to start June 25.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. will be working along Route 254 from the Steffens Road intersection east of Washingtonville to the intersection with Cromley Road.

Work will include roadway and shoulder resurfacing, pavement markings and centerline and edge line rumble strips.

When the work is completed, the new and smoother road surface should not require any major maintenance for another 8 to 10 years.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane through the work zone, with flaggers and daylight signing controlling traffic flow. Motorists are asked to stay alert and drive with added caution.

All work under this $ 241,894 contract is scheduled for completion by the end of July.


Added Week of June 4:

Route 42 paving between Centralia and Aristes starts June 6

From Tuesday, June 5

 

A 1.9-mile section of Route 42 between Centralia and Aristes in Columbia County will be resurfaced under a project set to start tomorrow, June 6.

The resurfacing will take place in Conyngham Township, from the intersection with Route 61 and Big Mine Run Road in Centralia, to the intersection with Aristes Ringtown Road in Aristes.

The project includes milling and resurfacing, areas of roadway base repairs, shoulder upgrades and new pavement markings.

When this work is completed, the stretch of roadway should not require any major maintenance for the next 8 to 10 years.

Work by prime contractor Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. will be performed under daylight signing with single-lane closures and flaggers controlling traffic flow. Motorists are advised to plan extra time for their travels through the work zone. Anticipate minor delays and watch for stopped traffic, especially on the steep grade above Centralia.

This $734,391 contract is scheduled for completion by early August, pending the timely completion of a previous water utility project in Aristes.

Added in May 2012:

Airport Road, Ralpho Township, drainage improvements starting May 23

From Tuesday, May 15

A PennDOT maintenance crew in Northumberland County is scheduled to replace multiple cross pipes beneath Route 2018 (Airport Road), between Route 2020 (Mountain Road) and T-788 (Stoney Lane) in Ralpho Township.

 

This upgrade involves removing older metal pipes and replacing them with plastic, which has a longer life cycle and will improve drainage beneath the roadway surface.

Airport Road will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays starting Wed., May 23.

This work should take a couple of weeks to complete. School buses will be accommodated, if possible, during hours of work.

A red-arrow detour will be in effect, using Route 2020 (Mountain Road) and Route 54.
